3 Keys to Living With Balance and Leading With Impact.

I’ll be honest, I haven’t always got this one right. It took me a few years to structure my life in a way that would help me…

1. Love God more
2. Love my wife better
3. Lead my kids intentionally
4. Take care of my body and mind better
5. Grow and scale my businesses faster
6. Serve my community with greater impact
7. Give my time and money more consistently
8. Just simply lead an all around better life.

Through years of trial and error, trying to balance so many aspects of life and making mistakes along the way, I realized that it is possible to achieve both balance and impact.

There were 3 key realizations I had that helped me make significant strides towards this (although at times I still fail).

Realization #1

The more I tried to please others, the more I said “yes” to things that truly didn’t align with what I needed to do and who I needed to be. Therefore, saying “yes” to those things practically derailed any type of progress I could make in becoming that person I knew I was capable of.

Think about that... if you are wondering why you haven’t made any progress in who you KNOW you should become, evaluate what you are doing and cut out the things that don’t get you there.

When you keep this in mind, you will see clearly which opportunities will accelerate your growth or derail your growth.

Realization #2

The more I focus on God, the more I step towards TRUE SUCCESS.

On the surface, seeking God may seem like an obvious answer, but even though it sounded like a good idea, I spent years running in circles chasing things that didn’t matter. In fact, the entire reason we started the “Lead At Home” podcast was to address this issue to help others reprioritize their lives with what really matters. Every week when you tune in to an episode, the message couldn’t be more clear. We believe that if you lead at home, then you win at life. And the first step to leading at home is getting it right with the man upstairs.

You may have a different version of what true success is, and that’s okay, it just means that we’re playing a different game.

Realization #3

The more I focused on doing more, the less happy and fulfilled I was.

Many of us have to learn this the hard way, which is unfortunate. It’s the classic 80/20 rule. 20% of your actions lead to 80% of your results. In 2017, I implemented this principle into my life, I cut out things that I was doing that were simply wasting my time. Rather than doing more, I focused on doing less, and zeroing in on the 20% that really mattered.

This led me to create a massive amount of margin in my life. Time for things that really mattered like spending time with family, serving the community, and even consistently getting my “me time” to take care of my body, mind, and spirit.

Although making these strides are great, I’ll be the first to tell you that I’m still not perfect.

At times I may not be consistent, I may get side-tracked, or even completely derailed. But the truth is that I am self aware enough to know exactly where I’m at and have the vision to know exactly where your going...

And it starts at home.
